New in 2011: Syma Conference Center
The Syma Sport and Event Center hosts events in three halls at the moment, but it will soon be enlarged with two additional wings. The smaller E hall will include section rooms on the first floor, while the larger D hall and auditorium will be a conference hall that can accommodate 4-5 thousand guests at a time. The new addition will be called Syma Conference Center.
The new wings, being built as an extension to the old ones on the side of the Puskás Ferenc Stadium (Puskás Ferenc Stadion), will include 21thousand square meters of floor space. The new auditorium will offer 1200 seats fixed in an upper arena, 1600-1800 movable lower spectators’ seats, and there will still be space for an additional 1000 seats on the floor. The hall will be able to accommodate large-scale events like conferences, stage performances, shows, exhibitions and fairs, as well as various sport competitions (indoor tennis, basketball, handball, fencing, boxing, wrestling, etc.). Movable walls will be able to section the auditorium into five smaller parts.
The new Syma Conference Center and the present Syma Sport and Event Center will jointly offer 51 thousand square meters of floor space, and can provide high standard facilities and services for large group events from the spring of 2011. The present facilities have already served well in hosting smaller conferences and fairs for the past years. Even before the enlargement a wide range of events will take place in Syma Center, including private events and balls, various concerts (Tankcsapda, Miklós Fenyő, Ákos Dobrády, Michael Jackson Live Tribute, Napoleon Boulevard), exhibitions (Educatio, Hungoro - jewelry and watches, Naturvital - health festival, Labratory Technique, Safety) and fairs (Electro Fair, spring/autumn shoes and dresses, other theme fairs), as well as sports events.
The large conference centre will be beneficial to the capital as well as to Budapest hotels and catering businesses, because the new facility is likely to bring additional Hungarian and international visitors. Budapest is already a popular location for corporate events as it is among the first 20 cities of the world where conferences are frequently held. However, as it does not have a large conference facility at the moment, and can only host smaller events, it is not even among the first 50 cities if the number of conference visitors is also taken into account. This can easily change with the new conference centre, which will be able to simultaneously provide conference and meeting rooms, exhibition space, and seated catering for up to five thousand guests.
